My Body is My Tent; if I Do Not Take Care of it, it Cannot Take Care of Me
Listen in on an Interview with Health Expert Enoch DeBus and Gary Pozsik, Host of "Health Wealth and Happiness": a Radio Program on Health, Wealth and Civic Events brought to you by the University of Louisville's School of Medicine and AJ Lanigan.
Video Summary:
Enoch speaks on "How to live Young and Healthy at Any Age"; the keys to this goal are Diet and Exercise.
Enoch was involved in a car accident where he was told he would never walk again; he overcame this with diet and exercise
Gary asks Enoch about his daily routine. Enoch's Daily Agenda consists of:
- 4:30am Prayer
This starts Enoch on a positive note, knowing all things are possible with the help of his creator.
- Consume 20oz of Filtered, Clean Water
- Take 3 Capsules of Beta Glucan from Better Way Health
- Enoch then Swishes a Teaspoon Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVO) with 3 Drops of Clove Essential Oil for 20 minutes while Exercising
- His Exercises consist of 100 Crunches, 100 Push-Ups, and 3 Sets of 25 Weighted Pull-Ups (75 Total)
- The first thing he consumes every day is 1 Tablespoon (tbsp) of Bragg's Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) with 1/2 Teaspoon of Raw Honey. The enzymes, vitamins, and probiotics in this mixture help to start his day.
- For breakfast Enoch will eat 3 to 5 fruits in the morning
- Some days, he will instead eat a "Grain Breakfast" consisting of:
(1 TBSP of Each)
* Sesame, Flax, Chia, Sunflower, Poppy, and Quinoa Seeds
Each Seed is ground into a powder with a Magic Bullet
Enoch then boils water and pours the water into the seed powder
He will add 1 to 2 ounces of Almond or Coconut Milk; as well as, 1.5 TBSPs of Grade C or B Maple Syrup (the darker the better)
This Grain Breakfast Will Give Me So Much Energy and Can Last Me All Day
- Enoch also speaks to Gary on how he uses glassware for everything he can, as it contains no toxins and is nonporous.
He also advises against using a Microwave for preparation. Microwaves will change the molecular structure of the food you intend to eat, making your meal impossibly beneficial for your biome (1)
- With the above regiment and exercise routine, Enoch believes - at 71 years old (at the time of this interview) - that he is now more Agile and Faster than he was in the U.S. Marine Corps during his youth.
- In the early 2000s, Enoch was disabled for months after a car accident and was advised by a Medical Doctor that he needed Surgery on his Gallbladder and Appendix. In 2009, he had Cancerous Growths on his Wrist, between his Eyes, and his Jaw. After a Biopsy, the MD prognoses was that Enoch had Six Months before he'd be blind or dead. The Surgeon gave him one month to decide on whether or not he would undergo surgery. - Enoch realized that his fear and stress were causing the malignancies. With prayer, the above diet, and his physical / social activity; Enoch has been Cancer Free since 2009. - Another secret to Enoch's Health, is "Kick'um Juice": a super potent and beneficial drink he created himself: This drink includes (at minimum) the following ingredients: - Ginger - Garlic - Peppers (seasonal): Habanero, Jalapeño, Serrano - Black Pepper - Lemon / Lime - Turmeric - Maple Syrup Enoch has shared his story and helpful tips with hundreds of people around the world. His willingness to help others and spread the Word of God is Truly Inspiring. For More information on Enoch, Visit His Website at

Gary:
Welcome to Health, Wealth, and Happiness, a fast paced, informative hour-long program, dealing with physical, emotional, and mental health issues, consumer information and money management; as well as the arts, theater, travel entertainment, social and civic events. Brought to you by the University of South Carolina School of Medicine Specialty Clinics, the Institute for Partnerships to Eliminate Health Disparities, the Newberry Opera House, the South Carolina Philharmonic Supplements Manufacturer, AJ Lanigan, Leon Jones Insurance, and the Mitchell House and Gardens. And now here's the host of Health, Wealth, and Happiness, Gary Pozsik.
Gary:
Good afternoon everyone and welcome to Health, Wealth and happiness. AJ Lanigan normally fills this slot on Tuesday but he's out of the country. And in his place, he has invited Enoch DeBus. Enoch is 71 years old and according to AJ, looks like he's in his forties and acts like he's in his forties. And he's going to talk today on how to live young and healthy at any age, and it's really all about diet and exercise. And that's not to say that Enoch has not had his own health issues to battle, he has. He's overcome them all. From one-thirty to a quarter of two each Tuesday, Jack Thompson stops by with his weekly commentary as he sees it. And my final guest of the day will be Jerry Stevenson, who's the artistic director of the Columbia Children's Theater, that will begin their presentation this weekend of Hairspray Jr.
Gary:
A very, very popular musical. So I hope you'll stay tuned for the entire program and welcome, making his first appearance on Health, Wealth and Happiness, Enoch DeBus. Good to have you here.
Enoch:
Thank you, Gary.
Gary:
No doubt about the fact that many years ago, you were involved in a horrific accident in which the doctors told you, you'd never walk again. And you beat those odds and you've had other issues, a second accident in which you were told, well, you got to take out your gallbladder, you got to take out your appendix. And you said, I don't think so. And really you've overcome these issues in part by what you eat and by exercise. And you're not a gym rat. You're not spending hours a day pumping iron in the gym. You say you're steady at what you do, but you're not a freak about it.
Enoch:
Absolutely, Gary. I believe balance in all things. If you'd like, I kind of give you a rundown how I start my day, if you're interested.
Gary:
Sure. Please do.
Enoch:
I get up about 4:30 in the morning. And I start with little prayer to my creator, letting him know how much I appreciate and love him. And what that does for me, it sets me off with a very positive note, believing that whatever is possible for me to do that day, I can do it with his help. But I got to do my part. It's not just pray and expect it to happen. We got to be very active, believing, strong individuals. So then I go to the kitchen immediately. I drink about 16, 20 ounces of water. And I like to pop in some beta glucan, it's a fantastic product I've been using lately and it's really added to my life. And what I'll do after that, I'll take about a teaspoon of organic extra virgin oil, drop in three drops of essential oil clove, and swash it around my mouth for about 15 to 20 minutes.
Enoch:
And while I'm doing that, I start my exercises. Kind of get two birds with one stone there. And I don't do anything to work up a sweat. A lot of people may, but it doesn't work up a sweat with me. I do a lot of calisthenics, stretches and I go into a lot of reps. And towards the end I'll do my hundred crunches and some other stomach exercises along with that. And then I'll go into a hundred pushups, and then I'll go ahead and add to about 25 pounds around my neck and ankles and do about three sets of 25 pull-ups. About that time I'm doing pretty good. And I go out and empty my mouth out and I take about a tablespoon of Bragg's cider vinegar. The reason why I named the brand because it's the only one that brings along with it an alkaline balance in your pH, which is very important to me to get overcome that acid, which we normally pick up over the night.
Enoch:
And in that tablespoon of Bragg's cider vinegar, I'll put about a half to a teaspoon of raw honey, unprocessed unrefined, and I'll get as local as possible. And so that's about the first thing that hits my stomach and it's got any enzymes to it or whatever to get me going. And then I'll go ahead and take up, oh, probably from anywhere from three to five fruits and I'll eat those. And a lot of times that's my breakfast for the day, but more times than not, I go into a grain breakfast. And if you'd like, I'll let you know what I put in my grain breakfast. Would you like to know that Gary?
Gary:
Sure.
Enoch:
I take in everything here is fresh. Everything is in seed form. I put into my magic bullet, which will grind it down into a powder. I put one tablespoon of each of these products. I take my flax seed oil, excuse me, flax seed, sesame seeds, poppy seeds, sunflower seeds, chia seeds, quinoa seeds. And I'll go ahead and spin that off. And I boil in my tea pot, and I use a glass teapot, and I'll boil that water till it's boiling. I'll put it in a bowl. I'll dump the powder in. I'll take a fork and I'll mash it down, spread it evenly. And then I'll put in there about a table and a half of organic maple syrup. I like to get the darkest I can.
Enoch:
And if you've got friends up north, you can get the C, otherwise you're only going to be able to get A and B. And Trader Joe's is very good place to get it. They've got organic and they've got a very reasonable price. And I'll usually put maybe an ounce or two of coconut milk or almond milk in that. And I'm ready to enjoy a delicious energy pack breakfast. Gary, the energy I get from that is unbelievable and they can hold me all day if I have to, but I don't like to do that. And I use, by the way, I use glass for everything. Storing, prepping, eating out of, cooking out of. And the reason why that is, there's no toxins at all in glass and it's green basically.
Gary:
Well, one of the things that you have told me in our conversation yesterday was that you have never prepared anything in the microwave. Why is that?
Enoch:
Well, Gary, when it first come out, I remember when I was young man at first came out, and I just [inaudible 00:07:08] it wasn't good. I began to do research on it. And I found out that it actually changes the makeup of your molecules, of the food that you're going to eat. And it's not really a consumptual, it's not ready for human being to eat. It's changed everything. The body doesn't recognize it. And it brings problems along the way, believe me. And there's plenty of research out there now to back it up and I've just never bought into it. And it's worth for somebody to go and research and believe me, what I'm saying is true. And it can change your health a whole lot. Everything adds up I find out along the way. So I add things along the way. When I find something that really works for me, I put it into the agenda and I tell you, I definitely feel better as I go along.
Enoch:
I'm 71, like you mentioned, and I am stronger, more energy, and this'll blow your mind. When I was in the Marine Corps, we used to do sprints and whatnot. I could run faster now than when I was in the Marine Corps, literally. And so I've got nothing but gratefulness for the discipline I've been given in my life, by a choice that I made myself. I was around people when I was younger that lived completely opposite. They didn't care about the body at all. Myself, I considered this body is my tent. If I don't take care of it, it's not going to take care of me. When I feel healthy, I can do things that most people could never even dream of doing. I've been blessed to be able to travel all over the world and whatever country I go to, I am ready for the temperature of the time of day.
Enoch:
I acclimate immediately. And I think this would be natural for anybody, if we tried to live a natural lifestyle. For instance, I never use air condition. I don't need it. I had the windows open for cross ventilation. A ceiling fan going in the wintertime. I keep it right around anywhere from 60 to sometimes 65 degrees. I've got people come over and visit and I got to warm it up for them, but I like to have it nice and cool.. So when I go outside, I don't get shocked. My body doesn't get shocked both in the winter and the summertime. I like both winter and summer when I was younger, I heard everybody says, I can't wait til winter, because it's so hot. Summertime, vice versa. [inaudible 00:09:21] a little boy age I thought, I don't care what it's going to be. I'm going to enjoy it.
Enoch:
And you know, buy gum. It's been that way my whole life. I made a choice when I was young and I've learned along the way we make the choices and we can make our world comfortable, happy, pleasant be around, or we can be the last person you want to be around. We make that choice from the time we wake up in the morning and until we go to bed and I just, I've got no reason to complain. I'm very fortunate. I've had a lot of challenges in life, physically, as you mentioned. I have fallen from Heights before by accident [inaudible 00:09:58] others, had truck accidents and been disabled for months on end, actually three years, this one accident. And I refuse to have the surgery on my leg. I refuse to have the surgery on my gallbladder, my appendix and exploratory surgery they wanted to do. I backed off.
Enoch:
I said, thank you, but no thank you. I've got cancer in 2009 and I understand why I got it, because when I was younger, I had those poisoned by rat poison one time. I had asbestos poisoning. I had lead poisoning. I was in the military overseas and they fed us poison over there, as you might've heard. Number of men come back with. So I wasn't surprised, because actually 2009, I had a lot of big jobs going from 2006 and I was under a lot of stress and I was enjoying it. But I found out later, it doesn't matter what kind of stress. If you got too much, it's going to throw things out of balance. And I was forced to not to be able to do my diet as strong as I wanted to because I was in another state and was going 15 hours a day.
Enoch:
So I was aware when I got it, I didn't go to a doctor until 2010, when they weren't healed, the wounds were stayed running blood. And she took the biopsies. They came back positive and I says... She called the surgeon there, she set up a date for me to go and on walking out, I says, ma'am, I says, is there anything I can do to help myself? She says nothing at all. I says, what happens if I don't have the surgery? She said where the roots are going, it was between my eyes. The roots are going to your eyes, in six months you'll be totally blind. And a couple months after that, you will be a dead man. I looked at her, I smiled and walked out as I'm going to my car I says, I don't buy that, I don't believe that. I did go to the surgeon.
Enoch:
I met him, had him do the measured and everything. And then I said, sir, I says, how long have I got before you think it's really too late? He said, I'll give you a month, you can have a month off. I said, okay. He was a very fine doctor. He was a Jewish man, very proper, very polite. And a month later I got a call from his office and I says, I won't be needing to come. They said, are you sure? They said, we're here when you're ready. I said, thank you. And I never went back. The cancer is gone. It was gone in a few months. They told me not to go out in the sun and ever since then, every day that I can, I'll get from 40 to 60 minutes on each side. And that sunshine is a natural healer, if you don't overdo it.
Enoch:
God's designed his creation for things to work in balance. The sunshine is not bad. The rain is not bad, but too much of anything out of balance will bring chaos to the body. So I thank the good Lord I don't have a cancer. I don't have any pains in my body. I do my exercise every morning. I go to the gym about three days a week for both social and physical activity. I love it. But as you said, I'm not a freak about it. An hour, hour and a half, for three days a week, I think is worth preventive maintenance. I could, I will pause there for a minute as let you try to take over again.
Gary:
Well, one of the things I'd like to revisit with you is, how do you think you overcame cancer? I mean, you said that you decided I'm not going to follow the advice of a learned doctor and a learned surgeon. And I understand you're very devout man, and that's great, but how do you think, aside from a divine intervention, you overcame cancer?
Enoch:
This is what I believe Gary. 2009, when this came on me, I had noticed these growths on my cheek and between my eyes and on my wrist. And right away, I thought cancer. I thought, I didn't think I'd ever get this. And I began to think about it and throughout the year I didn't want to go to find out. And I was surprised that I had that reaction. So I had some hidden fear there, I really do believe, and that motivated it. And finally, when I submitted to go, got it out in the open, I knew what it was. And when I was hit with the challenge, as I said when I walked out of the office, I said, I'm not going to believe that. And I did go home. I got on my knees and I said a prayer.
Enoch:
I said, Lord, I pray that you'd give me wisdom so I can do my part so that you can do your part. And all of a sudden, I had this desire to make a concoction. I call today, kick them juice. I've shared it with many people. They love it. And do you want me to tell you the ingredients?
Gary:
Sure.
Enoch:
I won't tell the portion because I'm going to be bottling this soon. So, but it's basically I get organic the best ginger I can get. And I will take a certain amount, quite a bit. I'll chop it up. I'll put it in clean water, meaning not tap water, either filtered water or reverse osmosis. And I'll bring the water to a boil and then I'll put the ginger in and I'll brew it. Not boiled, but brewed for about 30 minutes straight. I found out over the years that ginger has many things that is great for healing the body, both raw and cooked, and cooked a long time.
Enoch:
So I cooked it for 30 minutes and then I put in a bunch of more chopped garlic, raw. And I put it along with it, quite a few habanero peppers, jalapenos, and whatever hot peppers are in the season that I can get, organic if possible. If I can't get the organic, I will still using the peppers, seasonal. I chop them up. I add them into the brewing for about 10 minutes. And it's not real hot, but it's... You don't want to stick your finger in and let it sit, because it will probably cook it. But the stuff I put in, it doesn't destroy the enzymes. It keeps the enzymes alive so they can do their part. And after 10 minutes of that I take and put it in a blender. I pulverize it, make it liquid form, seeds and all. I do not filter it.
Enoch:
I then pour into glass containers and you must watch it when you take the lid off, because it'll knock you back. I'm telling you. The power hen is unbelievable. So I'll put it in a gallon jug and then I'll take out of that and pour it into quart jars and I'll cut it. And I'll make about 16 ounces at a time. I make it fresh. From there on this is what I do is, I'll take maybe a lemon fresh or lime, organic, or prickly pear, or a number of fruits I'll use and I'll squeeze them, the juice out. Put it into 16 ounces. I'll drop about two to three ounces of essential oil, usually lemon or lemon grass, which purifies things in itself.
Enoch:
And then I'll add maybe a quarter or maybe a half a teaspoon of organic maple syrup. And I'll put that in that bottle, I'll shake it up and I'll drink it. And it gives me such energy, Gary, unbelievable. I use it for my workouts and a lot of guys they'll have these energy drinks, and be honest with you, most of them are very detrimental to your health. Don't help you at all physically. It will give you energy, but it's not good for you. But the stuff I drink, it gives me good, clean energy. And it's unbelievable. The strength, the vitality it gives you. And I'll drink that and that's basically what I did. And I did my part and God did his.
Gary:
We'll take a break and come back with more right after this. [inaudible 00:17:55] Enoch DeBus, who is 71 years old. And if you're listening, he doesn't sound it. You can tell he doesn't act it. And he's talking about how to live young and healthy at any age, and it's all about diet and exercise. Most of the things that he takes are not store bought things that you buy at GNC or some other health food store. They're things that he has developed himself that he's found that worked for him, from curing cancer to keeping him vital. And I think that there are two things that I've learned in talking with you, Enoch. One is, you're very disciplined. You do things basically the same way every day. And that sets you apart from most people who say, that works for you Enoch, but... And what you've talked about, couldn't you just break that down into a tablet or a pill or a capsule? See, I can respect what you're doing, but see, I don't have the time for that. So couldn't you just put it in a pill for me?
Enoch:
Well, the thing is, a little bit of time now, I call preventive maintenance, is going to give you a lot of time later on. If you figure that you can add... And I'll tell you the truth, I don't look forward to necessarily dying in at a hundred. A friend told me a couple of weeks ago, he says, hey brother, the way you live, you're going to live to be a hundred. I looked at him real seriously. I said, what do you got against me? What's what's wrong with 120? And I was serious. So tell me something. If I would save, say 20 minutes a day or an hour a day, by doing the things preventive maintenance that gives me a ready to do at anytime day or night, in the middle of the night, I can jump out of the bed better than when I was a teenager.
Enoch:
Seriously, if an hour a day isn't worth maybe 20, 30 or 50 years on your life, which one do you want to do? Do you want to take the pills or are you willing to spend a little time preparing your food properly, eating the right stuff, doing exercise, getting involved in arts. It's going to be creative to you. It's going to give you another type of energy and doing things like this. I would say, my friend, make your choice. Unfortunately along the years, I have shared with many people and a few have converted over and they're tickled pink. And they thank me every time I see them. But the bulk of them was just like you said, I want it in the tablet form, I don't have time for that, I don't have the energy. And I said, well, I'll help you get started. I'll do it with you. I'll come over and show you how to prepare your food. I'll take you shopping, show you. And 9 times out of 10, they smile and they said, that's okay for you. But as you know, Gary, we've got to make a choice.
Gary:
Now in terms of food that you eat, you've talked about fruits and vegetables. Do you eat fish? Chicken? Do you eat red meat? Do you stay away from carbohydrates? Just what exactly do you eat?
Enoch:
Well, how about if I tell you what I had for lunch today. I had 100% grass fed beef, and I emphasize the 100% because you can go get grass fed beef, but it isn't the real 100%. Unless this is 100%, you're getting some antibiotics in there. You're getting some grains in there. So it's got to be labeled 100% grass fed and you have nothing added. Nothing is going to bring harm to the body. You don't have antibiotics. You don't have any of these drugs, growth drugs or anything. You don't have any grains that are GMOs. So yes I do eat red meat, very seldom do I have the red meat; however, I do eat fish probably twice a week and I make sure it's wild, Gary. I'm very fussy on that. And it also has to fall in line with the guidelines that I follow in the holy scriptures that I believe in, speaks about clean and unclean.
Enoch:
And I follow that to the T. And on my research, I found out a lot of people die from metal toxins because of the bottom feeders they eat, from crayfish, oysters, clams, and whatnot. So I will only eat a fish, and I love fish, it's my favorite. I love salmon. It's got to be wild. I love tuna. And I think all your tune is wild. The fish has got to have scales and fins. If it's got scales and fins and it's wild, I'm going to cook it up. And I do like sushi. I lived in Maui and I ate quite a bit raw tuna, Yellow fin tuna. And it is far superior than any cooked fish I ever had. But unless I'm in Maui, I don't eat the tuna around here because if it comes from different waters, I just don't feel that good about it being what I like. And chicken, I do eat chicken.
Enoch:
I like chicken. I have it probably twice a week. And I use organic pastures. Make sure the chickens have freedom to go out and pasture and get their bugs and insects and whatnot, and get the stuff out of the earth that they like. And that's going to make them healthy. And as far as eggs, I love eggs, but they got to be fertile. They got to be from organic hens and they got to be fertile. So yes, to answer your question, I enjoy fish, chicken, eggs, and red beef. I do not do pork. And however, I remember when I was in Algeria, unbeknownst to me I had somebody treat me to a nice dinner and it was delicious. It was camel. Well, camel is not a clean animal. So that was the only time I ate it. But it was simply delicious, be honest with you.
Gary:
Did it taste like chicken? Because anytime you eat an exotic animal, everybody always says, it tastes a lot like chicken.
Enoch:
It tasted like no meat I've ever eaten. It was probably the best tasting meat, other than fish, which is not a meat, but it's the best meat I'd ever eaten. Far superior. Even I love venison and it's better than venison. I couldn't believe it.
Gary:
I'll be darn. Interesting. Yeah. I had a very dear friend of mine who was in Vietnam and they spent a lot of time in Cambodia, even though we were told that we didn't have a truce in Cambodia, he spent almost two years there and he said, I learned not to ask what it was that I was eating, because I really didn't want to know. But he said, I've lived by this, if I looked in the bowl and it was moving, I didn't need it. He said, other than that, we were hungry and we ate. He said, one thing he said when I first got there, what I couldn't understand is all these Cambodians, we were going through a really dense jungle, and they had all these dogs with them and I thought, why are all these dogs following the troops? They make noise and you wouldn't think there'd be dogs.
Gary:
But then he said, after I'd been with them a couple of weeks, I noticed what happened to that brown dog? Oh, I got it after a while. We were eating those dogs you say. Yeah. So he said, I learned not to ask because he said times it was monkey, and sometimes it was... Randy said, those people over there, they eat everything. And he said, I mean everything. Cockroaches, anything. So he said, I came to the point, if it were moving in the bowl, I didn't need it. Otherwise I ate it. So I thought you'd appreciate that.
Enoch:
I do, Gary.
Gary:
And I appreciate so much you coming and sharing your story and your philosophy and your way of life, because it is certainly unusual. It's different. It obviously works for you and would work for a lot of other people if they are disciplined enough to do it, to try it. But more importantly, just stick to it. And I thank you for coming and sharing on Health, Wealth, and Happiness.
Enoch:
Gary, you're very welcome. And I thank you for having me. I appreciate you, sir. And you and your listeners have a wonderful, blessed day.
Gary:
When credit scoring was introduced into the marketplace in the mid nineties, who really knew the impact that would have on our lives today? The three digit number determines the rate of financing we get. Rate of financing we get. Rate of financing we get. Rate of finance.
