ß-glucan is found in the cell walls of grains and our Barley Beta Glucan is derived using a proprietary and patented process which allows the structure of the natural grain to remain relatively unchanged, preserving the original high viscosity of ß-glucan. Just a 1.25 gram serving of this novel ingredient offer the multiple heart health advantages of consuming four bowls of oatmeal! No other ß-glucan concentrate available is like our Barley Beta Glucan!
The FDA accepts viscosity as a key property: “…we accept that viscosity is a major physiochemical property responsible for physiological effects of consuming soluble fiber...”

Product Description:
ß-Glucan concentrate (soluble dietary fiber) obtained from barley (60% by weight). Barley ß-Glucan is a natural viscous polysaccharide (fiber) comprised of individual glucose molecules that are linked together by a series of beta (1-3) and beta (1-4) linkages.
Science:
Numerous scientific studies have demonstrated the positive effects of ß-glucan on helping maintain cholesterol levels that are already within the normal range. In general, high viscosity ß-glucan is believed to work by increasing the viscosity of the contents within the intestinal tract. Binding of bile acids is one of the proposed mechanisms of ß-glucan. Fecal excretion of bile acids is increased when viscous ß-glucan binds to them, increasing the liver's capacity to metabolize cholesterol for bile acid synthesis. The body uses cholesterol (removing it from the blood stream) to replace the lost bile.
ß-glucan has also been positively linked in the scientific literature to a wide range of other positive medical effects. Other studies have confirmed a significant reduction in glycemic response related to the high viscosity of ß-glucan. ß-Glucan also offers health benefits for the cardiovascular system, blood glucose levels and weight management.
Research in these areas has been conducted by a wide range of excellent research organizations, including the US Centers for Disease Control, USDA Human Nutrition Research Center, and the CSIRO Division of Human Nutrition (Australia)
